  6.    Turn off the radio.. 
  7.    Hold down the Light, B and # keys (it isn't easy) 
  8.    While holding down these keys, turn on the radio (even harder for two 
  9.     handed people!!!)

  11.    THIS IS THE IMPORTANT STEP

  13.      **** DO NOT RELEASE THE Light-B-# KEYS UNTIL THE SELF TEST IS OVER AND 
  14.           THE RADIO IS DISPLAYING A FREQUENCY ****

  16. If you release the keys before the display has settled down, you won't 
  17. enable the wide-range receive.

  19. Or maybe you have a very early unit that requires the removal of a diode. 
  20. My unit has a serial number in the 1900's, I am told (by a good source) 
  21. that the 'first' batch of IC24A's required the diode to be removed. 
  22. All other batches (from Japan) don't require the diode to be removed (of 
  23. course, they could change this at any time!).
